What is organic meat?

Organic meat is organic food that has been grown naturally without the use of pesticides, artificial fertilizers or hormones. This also means that animals weren't given any genetically modified feed. This means that the meat is safe for consumption as there aren’t any harmful chemicals.

Why should I go organic?

Conventional agriculture has been linked to several health problems, including asthma, allergies, obesity, diabetes, cancer, birth defects, hormone imbalances, and other diseases. When buying food, you must make wise choices.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG), offers these tips to help you choose "cleaner" foods:

Always purchase organic fruits, vegetables and other products whenever possible.

USDA organic labels for meat, poultry eggs, milk and cheese as well butter and honey are recommended.

Avoid processed foods that claim to be "natural" and "no additives."

Check ingredient lists carefully. If an ingredient is not listed, it can be added during processing.

It is better to eat fresh meats than canned or frozen. Many frozen and canned foods contain less nutrients, like high fructose Corn Syrup.

What are organic fruits and vegetables?

Organic foods are free of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. They contain more nutrients such vitamins A, C. E, and, in some cases, omega-3 oils. Organic food is better for the earth and our bodies because of these healthy ingredients.

Organic foods are grown using sustainable farming practices that preserve soil quality and encourage biological diversity. They are produced without harmful chemicals, irradiation, or sewage sludge.

Many organic products are not associated with produce. They include dairy and meat, poultry, eggs baked goods, pet food, household cleaning supplies, and personal care products.

According to the USDA, "organic" means that crops are raised in compliance with federal standards. These foods cannot be grown by farmers using conventional methods. They may however use approved natural pest management methods like crop rotation or cover cropping as well as organic feeds.

Further, the farmer must be careful about the amount of pesticide and fertilizer he uses in the growing season. GMOs, synthetic insecicides, artificial growth hormones or synthetic fertilizers can't be used by farmers.

All the above requirements are met by vegetables and fruits that are labeled "100% Organic". Some farms don't label their products 100% organic, as it could confuse consumers. Instead, they will label their product as "made with organic ingredients. "

What are the things to look for when purchasing organic products?

USDA-certified organic label are desirable. This guarantee that the product has met specific standards set forth by USDA. On packages, boxes, cartons or cans, look out for the USDA Organic seal.

When shopping for meat, ensure it comes from cows fed 100% organic feed. Cattle are ruminants. They eat the whole animal. Ruminant cattle are divided into four stomach compartments, the rumen and reticulum as well as the omasum and abmasum. Organic feeding must be done on all organs of the animal in order to get the cow labelled organic 100 percent.

Make sure you only buy chicken from chicken farms that are fed organically and have never been given antibiotics. Chickens are omnivores. This means they can eat both plant and animal food. Omnivorous chickens have a digestive system that includes a crop (proventriculus), gizzard and small intestine.

You should ensure you only buy dairy products made from milk that has been produced by cows who have been fed 100% organically grown food. Just like ruminants have four stomachs, dairy cows have four. The fourth stomach, or the udder is where you get milk.

You should always check the label before purchasing any other livestock. This will let you know what percentage of the diet was given to the animals. One example is pork that may be labeled '95% Organic'. This means that 95 percent came from organic sources.

What are the most popular organic products?

Today, organic foods are the fastest-growing industries. There is still much to be done, even though we have come so far from our roots.

Organic products are the future. They are safer and more cost-effective for consumers.

But they tend to be more expensive. That is why we developed the Organic Food Index. We wanted the ability to identify which foods are currently most popular and whether these trends have changed.

These results indicate that organic food is growing in popularity. Between 2011-2012, nearly half of Americans shopped for organic foods.

According to the USDA, organic production increased by 10% last year alone. Organic food now makes up 9% U.S. agriculture output.

While organic food is certainly gaining ground, it seems that it is still an expensive choice for consumers. The Organic Trade Association (OTA) reports that organic food retail prices average almost double the price of conventional foods.

That said, organic food is growing faster than any other segment of the food sector. Looking closely at the data, you'll see that organic food consumption has grown steadily since 2009.

According to OTA's data, organic products sold in supermarkets grew at 14% between 2010 - 2011.

This is because consumers are looking for healthier foods. Organic food sales have been increasing in all age groups.

Younger generations are also leading the way in organic food choices. Millennials have twice the likelihood of buying organic food as baby boomers. Young adults aged below 35 account for 25%.

How To

How to buy organic meat even on a tight budget

This post will share some tips and tricks to help you buy organic meat without breaking the bank.

Here are my tips for finding cheap organic meats. I'll also tell you how much each pound costs. You will learn how to make the best out of what you purchase.

To eat well, you don't have to spend a lot. Sometimes, it takes a bit of creativity to save money while eating well. Here are some ways you can cut down on food expenses while still getting the best from organic meat.

  1. Buy at wholesale clubs - Costco and Sams Club are great places to shop for bulk foods like chicken breasts and pork chops. These stores often offer discounts on large quantities of meat, up to 50 pounds, if you are lucky enough to be near one. This way, you won't waste any meat. You can also freeze the meat if you buy it bulk.
  2. Shopping online is easy - There are tons of websites that sell meat at reduced prices. For example, Amazon has a weekly deal called Prime Pantry, which includes free shipping on orders over $35. There are discounts on roasts, ground beef and lamb steaks as well as pork loins. You can browse their website and view what's on sale at different times.
  3. Locate a farmer in your area. Local farmers are usually cheaper than big box retailers as they don’t pay high stocking fees. Because they know exactly the diets and drinks of their animals, local farmers can provide a better understanding of what's inside.
  4. Look out for cuts that are the leanest. It's generally less expensive to cook lean meat than fatty. You should always look for the best cuts. The most commonly used cuts include flank steak, tenderloin and top round steaks. These cuts are high in protein and low in fat.
  5. Try new recipes. You can cut down on your grocery costs by starting to cook with ingredients you don't have before. It's possible to create delicious meals with fresh tomatoes, onions and garlic using olive oil, spices, and garlic.
  6. Use leftovers to create new recipes. You can make quick meals or lunches from leftover meat.

That's it! This is my list of tips to help you afford organic meat, even if your budget is tight. Do you have other tips? Do you have any suggestions for me on where to find cheap meat?
